With the revival of anarchism at the turn of the 21st-century and the rise of the anti-globalization movement, anarchist cultural symbols are widely present. The black flag has been associated with anarchy since the 1880s. The uniform blackness of this flag is representative of the negation of all oppressive structures and government.
