Kosovo (Kosova-Kosovë) is a new independent country in the Balkans, which Serbia still considers as a part of its soverign territory as an autonomous province. In the 20th century it was part of Yugoslavia and Serbia. Following the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia during the Kosovo War, the territory came under the interim administration of the United Nations (UNMIK). Albanian and Serbian are the main languages of Kosovo. Ethnic Albanians are 92% of Kosovo's population.
The flag of the Republic of Kosovo was adopted by the Assembly of Kosovo following the unilateral declaration of independence. It shows six white stars in an arc above a golden map of Kosovo on a blue field. They are officially meant to symbolize Kosovo's six major ethnic groups: Albanians, Serbs, Turks, Gorani, Roma, and Bosniaks.
