LARESLARES
The origins of the Lares flag can be traced back to the days of the "Grito de Lares" Revolt when Puerto Ricans revolted against Spanish rule on September 23, 1868 and declared the "Republic of Puerto Rico". The revolt was later defeated by Spanish forces. The flag is said to be derived from the Dominican Republic flag and was knitted by Mariana Bracetti, a revolutionary leader, at the behest of Dr. Ramón Emeterio Betances, the revolt's leader, who designed it.

This flag is formed by a white Latin cross in the center. The Lares flag was the original Puerto Rican flag and also represents Puerto Rican pride. Although the Lares flag is the official flag of the Lares Municipality, the flag is usually associated and used by pro-Independence supporters and organizations.
