LITHUANIA

The flag of Lithuania is a horizontal tricolor of yellow, green and red. The flag was adopted on March 20, 1989, almost two years before the reestablishment of independence from the Soviet Union. During 1988, when the Lithuanian movement towards independence was gaining strength, the Lithuanian Supreme Soviet again recognized the tricolor as the national flag, at which point the tricolor replaced the Soviet Lithuanian flag.
