HINDU MARATHA EMPIRE

The Maratha Empire (Maratha Confederacy) was a Hindu monarchical state located in present-day India. Its capitals were Raigad and Pune. It existed from 1674 to 1818. At its peak, the empire's territories covered one-third of South Asia.

Internal instability and clashes with the British led to various Anglo-Maratha Wars. In 1818, the Maratha Empire and its princely states were defeated and absorbed into British India.
