The flag of Nauru was created by a resident employed by an Australian flag manufacturer. It was officially adopted on 31 January 1968.The flag displays the geographical location of the island nation. The narrow yellow stripe of the length of the flag represents the Equator. The 12-pointed white star signifies the location of the island in the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean just south of the Equator. The twelve points on the star represent the island's twelve original tribes.
