The national flag of Nepal is one of only four non-rectangular official jurisdictional flags in the world. The flag is a simplified combination of two single pennants from different branches of the previous rulers, the Rana dynasty. The flag was adopted, with the formation of a new constitutional government, on December 16, 1962. The flag borrows the basic design from the original Hindu design, which has been in use for more than 2,000 years.
As of 2008, the Kingdom of Nepal is now the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.
