NORTHERN IRELAND

Northern Ireland is a constituent country within the United Kingdom. It shares a border with the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland consists of six of the nine counties of the historic Irish province of Ulster.

Northern Ireland was the site of a violent ethno-political conflict between Nationalists (Roman Catholic) and Unionists (Protestant). Nationalists want the reunification of Ireland and Unionists want it to remain part of the UK. The Ulster Banner is used within the unionist community, along with the Union Flag.
